Where should we stay?
Where should we stay?
We would suggest staying at the AmericInn in Silver Bay. It’s a modern hotel with comfortable rooms and nice amenities. We’ve stayed there in the spring of 2010--the free make your own waffles breakfast is a nice touch. The hotel is only a few minutes drive from the B&B where we’ll have the wedding.
We have a block of rooms set aside there for the wedding. Calling the hotel directly and asking them for the Larson-Bates wedding rate will get you a discount. If you use AmericInn’s 1-800 number or their website, you’ll have to pay the regular room rate. Half of the hotel faces the lake, while the other half has a view of the highway and forest. If you would prefer a lake-view, we would suggest making your reservation early. The hotel will hold the block of rooms until May 30th.
It can be a challenge to find a place to stay along the North Shore in the summer, particularly around the July 4th holiday. There are many resorts and B&Bs, though most allow reservations to be made up to a year in advance.
There are other hotel options in Two Harbors and Grand Marais. Two Harbors is about 40 minutes from Silver Bay and Grand Marais is about an hour away.
